Calabrese Family History

Our great grandparents:
Frank and Rose Calabrese:  
They lived in:
Rende, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy in the 1800's
.

They had six children:
Gasper was born in 1890, Came to the USA in 1909,
lived in Chicago, IL
and worked   for Otis Elevator for 37 years
and died June 21, 1946

Concetta came to the USA in 1910 and married Louis Belmonte.
They had eight children

Frank an Italian soldier was captured in Germany during WWI.
He was held prisoner in a cave,
caught pneumonia and died of TB.

Anthony (our grandfather) was born in
Rende, Calabria, Italy in February 1893.

He came to America in 1911, at age 18,
landed at Ellis Island and worked in Wyoming
(and other western states)for the rail road.

He started out as a laborer and became a foreman,
he was up for a yardmaster position but,
did not get it so, he moved to Chicago where
his brother Gasper was living.


He met Agnes Kabacinski and they were married.
They were both 35 years old.
Anthony worked as a welder and eventually owned
his own welding business.
They had three children: Anthony Jr., Russell and Robert.

Agnes died from female Cancer of the womb.
September 13, 1941

Anthony died from emphysema August 24, 1953
